Sandra Demarest arrives at the Caldwell estate, and announces to Mark Caldwell that she was secretly married to his nephew James, who recently died. Mark does not believe her, but allows her to remain at the manor while a search is made for a missing will that would prove her claim. Sandra befriends James' sister, Julie, who tells of strange noises and agonized screams from the laboratory wing of the estate. Between verbal duels with Mark, Sandra secretly investigates the lab and learns that ominous things really are happening.

Nick and Nora Charles are asked by Phil Brant and Janet Thayar, who have just eloped, to help them after band leader Tommy Drake is killed at a society dance which Nick and Nora also attended. The police are looking to arrest Brant for the murder and while he claims he's innocent, Nick isn't too keen on having him in the house and turns him over to the police. As they look into the case, Nick and Nora learn that Drake wasn't very well liked and there are actually several people who benefited from his death. Drake owed money to loan shark Al Amboy, and Janet's father disliked Brant and may have set him up. Drake's girlfriend may have been having a fling with clarinetist Buddy Hollis, and he and Drake had a fist fight on stage during the festivities. Nick arranges for another party on the same boat where Nora notices something quite peculiar about one of the guest's jewelry.

The Saint is a modern day Robin Hood of sorts. He steals from rich criminals (gangsters and the like) and keeps the loot for himself.

Holidaying in Rome, the Saint befriends Sue Inverest, the daughter of American senator Hudson Inverest, who is later kidnapped by mobster Tony Unciello. Unciello is demanding Inverest order the reprieve of another gangster, his brother, on Death Row in an American jail. The Saint discovers where Sue is being held and purposely has himself caught by Unciello in a plot that will utilize a little Latin touch.

One of the customers has hung around to see this, and wants to make a deal with Diablo, aka the Devil.

The psychiatrist is intrigued by the split personalities indicated by the three separate sets of problems presented by the actor, and soon producers are climbing out of the woodwork trying to buy the rights to the film, while the actor is having trouble keeping his act together.

Needy for affection and further frustrated by the amorous dalliances of her live-in niece Nathalie (Sydney Rome), Claire has been carrying on an affair with William's editor, Jacques Lavolet (Jean-Pierre Cassel). But she becomes enraged when she sees William leaving the apartment of his research assistant, Charlie Minerva (Ann-Margret). Hiring an eccentric detective (Tomas Milian) to learn more about Charlie, Claire begins to fantasize William having sex with every woman he knows, including Nathalie. Her way of cutting off the affair is to forge William's signature on a bill of sale for his beloved apartment, forcing their move to the country. Becoming bored and resentful, William heads back to Paris, to ask Charlie to run away with him to New York.

She gets to know Jackie to find out who the boss is, taking a job in the Vogue Club, owned by a man named Armitage. Meanwhile, Alice, Armitage's greedy mistress, goes after Jackie and lures him into blackmailing the nightclub owner. Armitage discovers the betrayal, and kills the two, but Laura schemes to get closer so she can prove him guilty.

Hain in his investigation, though child psychiatrist Dr. Maitland clashed with Hain, accusing him of pushing Carrie too far. The crime went unsolved and, fifteen years later, Carol, about to get married, goes to visit Hain.

Hain explains to Carol his own position fifteen years earlier and how he was dropped from the case - and even briefly in the frame - because he was a client of Sally, whom he loved. He used Cleo's,the massage parlour where Sally worked, to gain information from other working girls like Rachel and suspected another policeman, Oliver, of having shady dealings with Tony Phillips, the man behind Cleo's, though Oliver explained he was working under cover, to expose fraud. Hain was subsequently given early retirement, though he tells Carol that he has recently seen Whittaker, a man who wanted to photograph her when she was a child and was himself, for a while, a murder suspect. She decides to go under cover herself at the massage parlour.

Hain and Carol continue to dig into the past, despite death threats when a hearse is sent to Hain's house. Carol registers at the massage parlour as Angel and forces Whittaker, a regular client, to admit he took photographs for a paedophile ring. She tracks down another victim, Andrew, who identifies Rachel as a procuress for the group. Rachel names Phillips and Oliver as its ring-leaders and admits she saw the murderer of Sally but was forced to keep quiet as Carol was being threatened if she spoke out. The killer is eventually arrested but at a price.
