Irish band Hothouse Flowers,whose roadie Declan is a friend of Tinker, stay with Lady Jane whilst performing a charity concert but after the gig it seems that events organizer Ray Morgan has decamped with the money. To make up the shortfall the band decide to sell a valuable Celtic harp,but this too is stolen. Lovejoy catches up with Morgan at an auction to recoup the cash but it's down to Tinker to divulge what happened to the harp. Victoria meanwhile returns to Peru having turned down Lovejoy's offer of marriage.

Francis Urquhart calls the election but the party is down 13 points in the polls and he will obviously have a hard slog ahead if he is to be reelected. A gas explosion in a block of flats gives the King a platform to drive home his point about the need to invest more in housing and social services, but the PM also makes use of the opportunity to remind the King to stay out of politics. Party Chairman Tim Stamper is not very pleased that his old friend Urquhart won't promise him a senior Cabinet post should they win the election and he sets out to ruin him. As the Conservative party inches ever closer to being reelected, Urquhart must deal with Stamper and Sarah, both of whom have the evidence to bring him down.

That cannon is Harry, recently arrived in Seattle, who has an aging associate Casey, a man with a penchant for cocaine. What Harry and Casey are really looking for is a "stall" - someone to act as the distractor. Harry thinks that Sandy, Ray's girlfriend and one of his former marks, is better suited to the job, but Sandy will not do it unless Ray is included in the deal. Ray appreciates what Harry can and does teach him and Sandy, but Ray doesn't much like the romantic and sexual interest Harry is showing in Sandy. After relocating their operation to stay one step ahead of the law, Ray, tired of being the fourth banana in the group, itches to become a world class cannon himself.

He learns from one of the roadhouse managers that Parnise Surigao has been importing the liquor but he won't reveal where or how he's doing it. When Nitti takes one of the smugglers hostage and learns where Surigao is storing his liquor, he decides to get his hands on it.

The Laniers have sent bulldozers onto the old Whitlock Estate to level the land for a construction project. Morgan Whitlock and his daughter Amy make a futile effort to stop the bulldozers that overturn headstones and churn up graves in the Whitlock Cemetery. That night, an overturned coffin opens and Vanessa Whitlock, the witch buried centuries ago, rises from the grave. Together with Morgan, they use their supernatural powers and soon, one-by-one, the Laniers meet with fatal accidents. Tracy Lanier follows Amy into the family crypt and is astonished to see Vanessa and her witches in weird supernatural rites.

Having separated from his wife, the King's chief of staff and press secretary, David Mycroft, has found new interests in the form of a handsome man. Walking down the street alone, Sarah is accosted and told to ask the PM about Mattie Storin.

Frances Urquhart is now Prime Minister and is somewhat haunted by what he has done in the past. A newly crowned King presents him with more of a challenge that he may have expected. The King has a conscience and to Urquhart's distress, wants to 'make a contribution'. Urquhart doesn't stand by idly and the King's interest in a major urban renewal project means curtains for the Environment Secretary who proposed it. Meanwhile, the PM hires a new political adviser Sarah Harding and his right-hand man, Tim Stamper, puts into motion an insurance policy of sorts they've developed by co-opting a member of the Royal family, Princess Charlotte. The King's refusal to change a speech where he is seemingly at odds with the government sets the wheels of his destruction in motion.

Anna goes undercover to get to know him better but finds herself getting emotionally involved.
