However Van der Valk's curiosity has been arroused and he learns that Ko has a criminal record and may be responsible for strangling a woman in Paris. Van der Valk's attempts to warn off the American woman prove unsuccessful.

Within a few short years of their arrival in the USA, the 6 Genna brothers have firmly establish themselves in Chicago's criminal community. Established in Chicago's Little Italy, they provide the Capone empire with illicit liquor that they have produced through a network of home distilleries that may only produce one gallon a day each. They also smuggle illegal aliens into the country and hold the threat of returning them to the old country if they don't do what they're told. Eliot Ness and his men have been trying to break up the Genna's network, but it has proved difficult to do as they can only find a few bottles at a time. With the help of a respected member of the local community, Carlo Giovanni, they try to get more information about the illegal operations. When the youngest Genna brother takes an interest in Giovanni's daughter, Ness moves in, leading to a showdown with the family members.

A young girl named Carol Stanley (Judith Braun) has a trust fund that is being controlled by the investment company of Tidings & Dawson. It seems that Albert Tydings (George Neise) is using the fund as his personal checking account.

When Mr Dawson (Willard Sage) finds out about this he calls the police. But before the police get on the phone Mr Tidings produces a folder that makes Dawson stop the call.

Carol is living with larger-than-life Abigail E. Leeds (Geraldine Wall) that lets everyone she will not be pushed around. She believes that Tydings is stealing from the trust fund and wants Perry to look into the matter. (Ms Leeds says she took Carol to America from Europe to wait for her parents but the parent never showed up and she put Carol in a foster home- but now the foster parents died and she all that Carol has.)

Before Perry can look into the matter, Mr Tydings is found dead. And it just so happened that Carol had an late appointment with Tydings and found the body. This sets off a series of strange events which instead of helping Carol looks like she was covering up the murder.

Lt Tragg puts a tail on Perry which leads right to where Carol was hiding. And now Perry says he will defend her for the murder.

When she has a fight, with her husband, Lucy runs out of the house, and into a night of terror. She heads for the local cinema, and in doing so, becomes the only eyewitness to a couple of crooks, who are robbing the cinema's safe. In her haste to escape the thieves, she is knocked down by a passing bus, and is taken to the local hospital. The two crooks follow, and wait for a chance to finish her off, and thus eliminate the only person who can tie them to the robbery.

While Perry and Della have dinner at Morey Allen's restaurant, their waitress Dixie Dayton leaves suddenly and is run over by a car. Morey says he knows little about her as she started working there only 10 days ago. The police are soon there but Perry notices that one tough looking man isn't too interested in what's happening. Morey asks Perry to take charge of Dixie's mink coat, which makes Perry wonder how she could afford one. He finds a pawn ticket in the collar and Paul traces it to a gun, one that was used in the recent murder of a police officer. The man Perry saw in the restaurant is George Fayette, a very shady character with a criminal background. When Fayette is found murdered, Morey and Dixie are jointly charged with murder and defends them.

Acting on an anonymous tip, Eliot Ness and his men find themselves at a local carnival keeping an eye on an impending purchase of narcotics. The seller is Alexander Rader, a known drug dealer and the buyer is Arnold Justin on behalf of Frank Nitti. They are scheduled to meet in an electrical room accessible only through the tunnel of horrors tide. Justin is an ex-Chief of Detectives who was always honest when on the force but decided he was fed up putting his life on the line for minimal pay so he quit and now acts as a buyer for the mob. Unfortunately, he also realizes that the park is under police surveillance and refuses to go through with the buy. When the drugs disappear, Frank Nitti makes it quite clear that he expects Justin to deliver the goods, or else.

Mimi fills in on a children's radio program as the character "Aunt Jenny," singing and telling bedtime stories, and eventually uses the airtime to find her long lost daughter, part with her wild lifestyle, and reunite with Michael.

When the new cartel's enforcer, Steve 'Country Boy' Parrish, is arrested by Eliot Ness he is soon out on bail thanks to bail bondsman Barney Lubin, a Thornton associate. Parrish knows that Thornton's style is to eliminate any possible risk to his reputation so he is soon on the lam, living in the back room of a country garage run by Emmy Sarver. She has her own ideas, primarily focused on keeping Parrish around. As both Ness and Thornton close in, Country Boy Parrish must face the wrath of a woman scorned.

She is later found murdered and there is no trace of the ring, which turns out to be part of a cache of jewelry stolen by the Nazis during World War II and smuggled out of France after the wary by an American army colonel. The private eye decides to try to find the ring, is hired by the former colonel to find the rest of the jewels, and runs up against a murderous French gang that is also looking for the jewels.

His home is searched by detectives, and he is subjected to harsh interrogation at the hands of 'Pettiford' (Peter Jeffrey). To make matters worse, a large sum of money has been deposited in his bank account, so clearly someone is trying to frame him. But whom? Craven embarks on a one-man quest to clear his name.

After being thrown out of a bar for what is thought to be a trick, he tests his powers and eventually sends a policeman to Hades by accident. Worried, he sends the police officer to San Francisco, and seeks advice from the local clergyman, Mr Maydig. Maydig, after having Fotheringay's powers demonstrated to him, quickly planning for reform of the world by means of miracle, but eventually Fotheringay orders a miracle which, due to clumsy wording, backfires. He relinquishes his power and returns to the time before he had it.
