Friday, July 27 = These Wilder Years
These Wilder Years (1956)
Detroit business tycoon, Steve Bradford, tells his board of directors without explanation that he is taking a leave of absence. He travels to his small hometown, where it turns out that his goal is to find a son he put up for adoption 20 years before.
Steve turns to Ann Dempster, who runs an orphanage, explaining how he has achieved success in life, but feels a void left by his absent and unknown son. Ann explains that she is ethically required to conceal the identity of foster children and parents. Steve tries charming her, cajoling, even bribing, to no avail, then brings in his lawyer, James Rayburn, to seek other ways of finding the boy.
Although he has befriended Ann, he betrays her with a charge of fraud, resulting in a courtroom hearing that could cost her both her vocation and reputation. A furious Ann digs up records that prove how Steve specifically expressed no wish to ever see his child 20 years before.
At the orphanage, meantime, he strikes up an acquaintance with a young lady, Suzie, expecting a baby, abandoned by the child's father. Steve takes a personal interest in the girl, particularly after she is involved in an auto accident and needs surgery that she fears could endanger the baby.
With the case dismissed, and Steve overcome with guilt goes bowling where he is approached by a young man who turns out to be his missing son, claiming he'd been following the progress of the trial. They have a heart to heart and part with no plans to be in each other's lives. Steve believes that this seemingly coincidental meeting was privately arranged by Ann out of the goodness of her heart which turns out to be true. Steve adopts Suzie so she doesn't have to give up her child. Suzie names her son after him.

Thursday, July 12 - Danger UXB: The Pier, With Love from Adolf & The Curse of Frankenstein (1957)
Danger UXB (1979): The Pier (Season 1 | Episode 12 - aired 26 March 1979)
Brian is posted back to 347 Section, which relocates to Brighton to remove land mines laid in 1940 in anticipation of the German invasion that never came. Susan and Brian become engaged before he leaves. The former Private John Brinckley, Non-Combatant Corps, has joined the Royal Engineers and been commissioned as a bomb disposal officer. He is assigned to Brian for further training and seasoning. 347 Section is assigned a seaside pleasure pier where anti-personnel mines have been hidden under the decking. Ivor Rogers, still in command of 97 Company, instructs Brian to delegate the work (clearly grooming him for command); but when Lieutenant Brinckley is killed by an unmarked mine, Brian must resume clearing the explosives. While attempting to defuse a device installed on the slipway of the life boat station, he is badly injured when it goes off and blows him into the water.
Danger UXB (1979): With Love from Adolf (Season 1 | Episode 13 - aired 2 April 1979)
The pregnant Norma and Gordon Mulley prepare to marry. A bomb just misses 347 Section's barracks and Mulley is nearly asphyxiated when he falls into its camouflet. Brian's difficult recovery strains his relationship with Susan near to breaking point as he worries about being invalided out of the service. He refuses to see anyone or attend the wedding until Sergeant James visits him and succeeds in breaking through his depression. Brian is restored to active service but when he is promoted to captain and transferred to what seems a meaningless position in Somerset, he feels useless. Ivor offers him an unofficial chance to defuse a recently discovered and relatively routine bomb dropped years before. Dismantling the fuse, however, Brian finds a note inside that says 'With Love from Adolf.' The series ends with Captain Ash and Sergeant James blowing up the defused Hermann with a block of plastic explosive.
The Curse of Frankenstein (1957)
In prison and awaiting execution, Dr. Victor Frankenstein recounts to a priest what led him to his current circumstance. He inherited his family's wealth after the death of his mother when he was still only a young man. He hired Paul Krempe as his tutor and he immediately developed an interest in medical science. After several years, he and Krempe became equals and he developed an interest in the origins and nature of life. After successfully re-animating a dead dog, Victor sets about constructing a man using body parts he acquires for the purpose including the hands of a pianist and the brain of a renowned scholar. As Frankenstein's excesses continue to grow, Krempe is not only repulsed by what his friend has done but is concerned for the safety of the beautiful Elizabeth, Victor's cousin and fiancée who has come to live with them. His experiments lead to tragedy and his eventual demise.
