The problem is that Beatrice doesn't want the great role written for her. She wants the ingénue role, something she could have played wonderfully -- when she was twenty years younger.

Sherlock Holmes has been missing for two days, and Dr. Watson frantically summons Inspector Lestrade to help him search for the detective. The two of them find a letter asking Holmes to take a case on behalf of a shop owner, so they visit the man's shop. But the proprietor denies any knowledge of Holmes, and he also denies writing the letter. Watson's suspicions are aroused, and when Lestrade finds Holmes's hat and coat in the shop, they are sure that they are on the right track.

While Nolan struggles to keep the crime a secret from his girlfriend, Patty Winters (Marla English), a series of loose ends pop up, and Nolan soon learns that, although committing a crime is easy, getting away with it is (gulp) murder.

He moves his family to New York from Kansas City and their life, though grand, is falling apart due to his constant working. Wife and mother Jenny is lonely. Son Avery hates his job. Daughter Jennifer is snubbed by classmate Muriel and her friends. At a charity bazaar, Jennifer meets Berry and sparks are evident. However, he is engaged to Muriel and Muriel will make sure that she, and only she, marries Berry. After the marriage, Berry still thinks of Jennifer as Jennifer thinks of Berry. Avery laments about the state of his family since they were happy in Kansas City.

Then Dotie meets Neil Patterson who is rich. They go to Mexico on his yacht and have fun on their date. Neil proposes and Dotie accepts. Now she has to choose.

Tod, still alone, is in Houston working at SE Texas University as a gym manager. When decorated Viet Nam vet Lincoln Case is "hoo-rahed" by members of the basketball team, the "ticking time bomb" (that's Linc) violently retaliates. Tod seeks revenge and after a brutal fistfight both men come to an understanding of sorts. "Linc" vows to "search this country for a meaning to life". And hands the bim a bus ticket San Francisco. After all, what broad can compete with a good fistfight with another man?

The story involves a group of people who are summoned to a mysterious castle for the reading of the will of the man who has virtually destroyed each of their lives individually and has just coincidentally and unfortunately passed away. Or has he? The film contains most of the usual horror cliches and settings - secret passages, sliding doors, dark shadows, murders and the requisite mysterious housekeeper. Lots of talk, not much action, and a handy laser gun in the basement.

Features an early appearance by Yul Brynner as something of a mad doctor seeking revenge on a woman for the sole reason that she is the daughter of a woman who spurned his love twenty two years earlier. Lorna Bailey (Felicia Montealegre) is the wife of a psychiatrist, and she's always had this morbid phobia of white carnations. It turns out that her mother was carrying white carnations when she was pushed into the path of an oncoming train as the five year old Lorna witnessed her death. As the story progresses, we learn that Dr. Nestri (Brynner) has tracked Lorna to America, and if he can't rekindle a romance with the surrogate daughter, then he'll have to kill her too.
