Front Page Woman (1935)

A woman reporter tries to prove she's just as good as any man, but runs into trouble along the way.

Reporter Curt Devlin loves sob sister Ellen Garfield but believes women are "bum newspapermen". When she learns the identity of a murdered arsonist, he calls it luck. When she goes after the murderer he gets enough evidence to have Maitland Coulter arrested. She finds a bunch of "not guilty" ballots and publishes the wrong story; he eavesdrops on the jury and gets the correct verdict. After being fired she gets a confession from the real killer and gets Coulter released.

Reporter Ellen Garfield (Bette Davis) wouldn't mind accepting her boyfriend and fellow reporter Curt Devlin's (George Brent) marriage proposal -- as long as he acknowledges that she's just as good a journalist as him. Stubborn Curt resorts to trickery to best Ellen, convincing her to report the wrong verdict in a murder trial at the rival paper she works for. Unfortunately, the ruse leads to Ellen getting fired -- so to get back at Curt and clear her name, she sets out to find the real killer.

Gussie writes down quirks of Sir Watkyn and Spode in a little notebook to give him confidence, but he loses the notebook. Stephanie finds it but declines to give it back until Jeeves convinces Sir Watkyn to allow her to marry Harold. When Jeeves' efforts backfire, Stephanie gives the notebook to Spode herself (himself?). Harold steals a policeman's helmet for Stephanie, who hides it in Bertie's room and then tells the constable and her father that Bertie stole it.

Jack Drake,a man with a hundred faces and in reality a modern-day Robin Hood known only as Crackerjack, thrills all England with his exploits of stealing from the rich and giving to the poor. As a guest at a society party "Crackerjack" steals some valuable pearls, and the next day learns there has also been a hold-up at the party and a man killed. and Scotland Yard considers Crackerjack to be the leader of the killer-gang, and he realizes that someone is using his name to cover their own crimes. And sets out to prove it without having to disclose who he really is.

Romantic entanglements are complicated by a unique silver cow creamer that is desired by both Bertie's Uncle Thomas and his rival, Judge Sir Watkyn Bassett. Sir Watkyn purchases the creamer by telling the shopkeeper, falsely, that Thomas had sent him. Bertie's Aunt Dahlia and friend "Stiffy" Byng both want him to steal the creamer for different reasons, but Judge Sir Watkyn has already sentenced him once (for stealing a bobby's helmet) and he doesn't want to go to jail.

The wealthy Sir Basil Winterton (C. Aubrey Smith) is growing lonesome in his old age, so he sends a detective to find his three long-estranged, illegitimate children. The young adults, who each have a different mother, are brought to Basil's home in London, where they bond with their father, especially American daughter Toni (Marion Davies). But Basil's attorney discovers that Toni isn't really Basil's child, and this surprise threatens to destroy their happy home.

Hardy, a young sailor down on his luck, is left stranded when his ship sails without him so he robs a man but accidentally kills him. His girlfriend Diane informs him that the one man who can help him, the 'man at the top' is Sam Madrid. However, Hardy is in for a shock when he realizes that he has already met Madrid.

After an extended stay in Paris to care for her ailing mother, wealthy Nancy Gibson is happy to be heading back to her Long Island home to be reunited with her husband, Don Gibson, who she dearly loves. Upon her arrival at the house, Don is not there. Nancy learns from husband and wife Billy and Sally Ross - Don's business partner and Don's sister - that Don is with his mistress, Peggy Preston, who he intends to marry if Nancy will grant him a divorce. Apparently, everyone is aware of the situation and most, including Billy and Sally and the household servants, are on Nancy's side. After composing herself following receiving this devastating news, Nancy, who still loves Don and wants to be with him, decides that there are better ways of getting him back than to be the devastated wife. Acting the modern woman, Nancy pretends that she too has fallen in love with another man she met in Europe. As the other man, she uses the unwitting help of Brit, Sir Guy Harrington, a man she met on the transatlantic sailing back to New York.

Captain High 'Bulldog' Drummond has just returned to England. As he is driving home in the dark, a young woman jumps out in front of his car. He misses her, but she falls to the ground. As he tries to revive her, he hears a shout for help, then gunshots. As he goes to investigate, the woman drives away with Drummond's car. He is soon able to trace her to nearby Greystone Manor, and when he goes there to meet her, she urges him to help her get out of a desperate situation.

A circus worker wins a sweepstakes prize of $150,000 and must travel to England to present his ticket and collect his winnings. He books passage on a transatlantic liner, but on board is a shady hypnotist who hears about the man's good fortune. He manages to get a chance to hypnotize the winner and then takes his ticket, after which he disappears. When the man wakes up and realizes his ticket has been stolen, he sets out to find the phony "professor" and reclaim his ticket.

And don't forget the Gypsy violinist, who searches for her missing fiance, a circus worker who recently won a sweepstakes prize and was kidnapped by a hypnotist.
