Monday, Jan. 30 - The Big Boodle

Ned Sherwood, dealer in a Havana casino (pre-Castro), gets 500 counterfeit pesos from an anonymous, attractive blonde. Then he's beaten and wounded by two thugs trying to retrieve the bills. Then the police suspect him of being the counterfeiter. Then the real counterfeiter suspects him of having the missing plates. And someone is trying to kill Ned, who has little choice but to pursue the case himself, through a Cuban underworld where no one is what they seem.

Together, they will con mob boss Manzari out of a fortune, after which they can retire and live in luxury. Manzari, however, is not about to let them go so easily.

A French Saint film starring Felix Marten as Simon Templar. The film begins with a gangster being chased on foot by the police. As he tries to make his getaway he is struck by a passerby and falls. The gangster is then shot dead by the police. Fast forward to a year later and the passerby who helped the police kill the gangster has received threatening letters. The passerby it turns out is a very wealthy man who is afraid that a friend of the gangster has marked him for death. The wealthy man then contacts Templar, who he wants to hire to protect him from an unknown assassin. The Saint is sceptical but agrees to take the job for a hefty fee.

World War I veteran Matt Brady (John Payne) returns home and is given a government job by his brother Tim (Roy Roberts), boss of a local political machine. During a drinking binge, Matt alienates his fiancee and impulsively marries a complete stranger, angering his brother in the process. After Tim passes away from a heart attack, Matt assumes control of the political machine, his influence eventually reaching across the entire state. However, his ruthlessness and mob ties bode ill for his political survival.

Victor Norman is just out of the service and looking for a job in advertising. By playing hard to get, he figures that he can get a good job and a large salary. The first thing he has to do is get a war widow to endorse Beautee Soap - a client of the Kimberly Agency. He meets with Kay Dorrance and gets the endorsement and Mr. Evans, the head of Beautee Soap is temporarily happy. Victors job is now to work with Mr. Evans, a man who is a strict and demanding client. Everything should be rosy, but Victor, a bachelor, finds himself more attracted to Kay, a widow, than young single Jean Ogilvie.
