The story follows Mike Nelson (Sydney Chaplin), a thief who returns home to England from America with stolen cash. He falls out with a fellow American gang member over the loot, resulting in a physical struggle and a fatal shooting.
A devastating chain of events is set off when a devout young man accidentally gets involved in the scuffle and confesses the crime to a Catholic priest, Father Neil. Bound by the absolute secrecy of the confessional seal, the priest cannot share what he knows with the police. As the real criminal realizes the priest holds his secret, Father Neil is marked for murder, creating an intense, ticking-clock conflict.
