Simon Templar (Roger Moore) is asked by bookmaker Marty O'Connor to intervene after a criminal threat puts Marty and Cora in danger. Their trouble grows when gangster Lucky Joe Luckner's protection scheme targets their business and personal safety. Inspector Claude Teal investigates Luckner's activities but struggles to find enough evidence to stop him through official channels. Simon takes a personal approach, using strategy and pressure to challenge the criminal operation surrounding the frightened couple.
