John Prescott is driving back to Boston when he helps a stranded young woman named Lila Kirby , whose car has run out of gas.
John takes Lila to a local bar for a drink. When the bartender mentions or calls for a man named Morgan Debs, Lila panics and flees, though she promises to meet John later at a spot called Lookout Point.
At Lookout Point, John meets the wheelchair-bound Morgan Debs, who reveals a shocking truth. Lila had actually died three years earlier when she drove off the edge of Lookout Point—an accident that also left Debs disabled. John later finds Lila's wrecked car at the bottom of the cliff.
