During a blisteringly hot summer, tensions on the city streets are already high when a cop is inexplicably gunned down, with no leads to go on. Two officers from the dead man's precinct, police Detectives Carelli (Robert Loggia) and Maguire (Gerald O'Loughlin), are put in charge of the murder investigation but are shocked when the victim's partner is killed in a similar fashion. The detectives then realize they're dealing with a sadistic cop hater, and they could be next on his hit list.

Two con artists, Dorothy Patrick and John Eldredge partner up to play the Lonely Hearts racket. They place ads with various Lonely Heart clubs looking for well off possible companions. Patrick plays the men and Eldredge the distaff marks.

Their first mark they end up killing for the $7,000 in cash he has stashed. They move around the country burning various people for their savings.

Sometimes they pose as brother and sister to put possible marks at ease. A new mark, widow Ann Doran is soon on Eldredge's hook. He promises her world travel etc after they get married. She falls for the smooth talking heel and dumps would be suitor, Richard Travis.

Eldredge soon has Doran talked into selling her house and then traveling with him to Italy for a quick marriage, He then sends Doran off with his "sister" Patrick on a shopping trip to Chicago. Half way to Chicago, Patrick calmly shoves Doran off the back of the moving train they are on. She smiles as she watches Doran face plant onto the rail bed.

While all this has been going on, a concerned Travis has contacted Doran's son, Eric Sinclair about what is going on with his mother...

Boston, 1924: A starstruck Hannah Adams waits outside in the rain to meet Tim O'Connor, who has just performed in a musical on stage. She invites him home to meet her family, and soon, they are in love and getting married.

Tim gets a Hollywood screen test. Hannah is asked to read with him and ends up the one being offered a contract. She becomes a star in silent movies. At the advent of sound, she retires to have a baby and live with Tim on a farm.

(And then Tim becomes a star in Hollywood musicals, but then musicals become out of fashion and it's back to the farm for him.)

Their daughter, Jane, is taken by Tim to studio chief Henry Mercer when a child's role in a film becomes available. A hesitant Hannah agrees to let her daughter be in just one movie, but Tim conceals the fact that Jane is being given a three-picture contract. The conflict threatens to break up the family.

Later that night, after spoiling an attempt on the life of Judy, and meeting Madame Rapport, Mike goes to Sabbatt's hotel only to find the doors chained from the inside and a strange voice speaking. Busting in, he finds Sabbatt strangled. While there seems to be no way for anyone from this world to commit the murder, it is only the first murder. Mike must find the how and why before Judy becomes the third and final victim.

The problem is that Ben doesn't have a daughter and the callers were actually trying to call some doctor (Eddie Albert)! So, Ben tries to call the doctor and tell him what's happened...and the doc and his wife overreact and think Ben has kidnapped her. However, at the urging of Ben's wife (Angie Dickinson), he decides to pretend to be the kidnapper. That way, he'll just ask for MORE money than the kidnappers and pay them off himself...and keep the difference!! Considering Ben's an out of work actor, this plan, though very illegal, seems to make sense...

When Wally cannot be found Banjo gets Alice to take the case - which is her first. Her fee for defendant Potter is the Lake and the 1000 acres. When Wally shows up, he has the plaintiff Pansy as a client and his fee is also the lake and the 1000 acres.

The Strange Case of Doctor Rx (1942)

After five men previously acquitted of various criminal charges are murdered by a mysterious avenger known as Dr. Rx, police Inspector Hurd and Sergeant Sweeney ask private investigator Jerry Church to help them on the case. He takes the case after talking to Dudley Crispin, a brilliant attorney who had defended three of the murdered men. Crispin gains an acquittal for his latest client, Zarini, but the latter falls dead in the courtroom. Jerry marries Kit Logan, who becomes frightened and persuades Jerry to quit the case. He stays however after Ernie Paul, suspected of the Zarini murder, threatens to "get" him if he does not stay on and clear Paul. Dr. Rx captures Jerry and attempts to frighten him into insanity by strapping him on an operating table, and pretending to exchange the detective's brain for a gorilla.

Sordi keeps a portrait of Miliza in his studio, and cannot make love to his newest muse Dorean (Lori Saunders) because of her close resemblance to it.

Women's Prison (1955)

A ruthless superintendent of a prison, Amelia van Zandt, makes life hell for the female inmates. Her rules are rigid and she makes no exceptions.

The newcomer Helene Jensen is not a hardened criminal by any means, but a woman convicted of vehicular homicide after she accidentally killed a child. Out of place here, Helene is so distraught that Van Zandt has her placed in solitary confinement, making it even worse. Helene nearly dies.

The prison has two wings, one for women, one for men. One of the inmates, Joan Burton, has been illicitly having conjugal relations late at night with her husband, Glen, a convict in the other wing. Now she is expecting a baby, and brutal men's warden Brock issues a stern warning to Van Zandt that she'd better find out how the two prisoners have been arranging these meetings.

Joan has the sympathy of the decent Dr. Crane who's in charge of the infirmary and disapproves of the cruel treatment of prisoners he sees. But the heartless Van Zandt goes into a literally homicidal rage while interrogating Joan, beating the pregnant prisoner to death.

A protest erupts in the women's cell block, beginning with a hunger strike organized by Joan's cell mate, Brenda Martin, then turning into a full-scale riot. Naive or timid inmates are swept up along with the vicious, veteran ones, and there is much bloodshed before the uprising is quelled. Dr. Crane intends to go to the prison board and accuse Van Zandt of murder.

Businesswoman Merle Oberon runs over an old man and speeds off. She has second thoughts and stops at a phone booth. After she gets the police, Lex Barker, on the run from gangsters who are about to kill his partner, spots it, hops in and zooms off. Miss Oberon reports the car stolen. Buddy/police Lieutenant Charles Drake thinks there's something wrong with the set-up.

No sooner do they arrive, however, than a mysterious robed creature begins killing them off one by one. Unable to leave the house, the survivors band together to fight what they fear is a voodoo curse.

On the celebration of the anniversary of Mrs. Taggart, her three dominated sons come to her house for the party. Terry, Henry and Tom Taggart work in construction, in a business that belonged to their father and is presently managed by their manipulative mother. Tom brings his pregnant fiancée Shirley Blair to tell his mother that they will marry each other; Terry brings his wife Karen Taggart and they secretly intend to emigrate to Canada; and Henry is gay and loves to wear women's underwear. During the night, the mean Mrs. Taggart uses the most despicable means and tricks to get rid off Shirley and Terry and keep her sons close to her.

When MacFay is killed, Church seems to be the obvious suspect, but Nick is skeptical, suspecting more than a simple murder. MacFay's housekeeper, his adopted daughter and various hangers-on all may have had an interest in killing him.

An American wakes up with amnesia in a British hospital after a car accident in which the driver was killed. After working with a psychiatrist (Anthony Newlands) on staff at the hospital, he's released, the doctor unable to do any more for him to regain his memory. His hospital bills have been paid by an unknown benefactor who pays in postal drafts, and this same benefactor has provided him with a place to live. It turns out to be the penthouse of a high-rise. As he tries to sleep, he hears the people next door having terrible fights... except there isn't anyone next door. He also finds a bloody knife in his apartment.

The only clue Chris has to his identity is a magazine photo of a model that was found in the car. He hires a detective (Maurice Denham) to find out who paid his hospital bills and who the woman is but also embarks on his own investigation. He tracks down the photographer of the photo, who tells him the woman is dead from multiple stab wounds. Then he sees the woman drive by him in a car, and she finally shows up at his apartment. She's the wife of the driver and Chris' benefactor. She sets out to help him find out what happened and who he is...
