But influential men in Parkersville provide serious opposition to the plan.

Tommy becomes involved in a car theft ring, and takes Helen with him to deliver a stolen car. Chased by the police, they drive off a cliff, but survive, and are taken before a judge who offers them probation if their parents will do a better job of raising them.

A family move from London to Brighton to take over a run down guesthouse. The son, Dave Martin (David Hemmings), and his friends Ricky (Steve Marriot), Phil (John Pike) and his girlfriend, the Texan model Erica (Andrea Monet), reconvene their old beat group The Smart Alecs in order to enter a musical contest, 'Amateur Upstarts', with the view to drumming up publicity for the business.

The group write a song called Be My Guest and rehearse it at the Brighton Hippodrome for the contest's producer Milton H. Bass. However, Bass's stage manager Artie Clough (Tony Wager) and his glamorous girlfriend, the pop singer Wanda (Joyce Blair), recognise the song's hit potential and hatch a plan to rip off the boys by conning them into selling it for a song - no pun intended! - and give it to a popular local act, the dubiously named Slash Wildly and The Cutthroats. They plot to rig the contest so they win and sign the band before Milton H. Bass does and top the charts with Be My Guest claiming it as their original work...

An out-of-control test rocket causes death and destruction and requires the relocation of the rocket development plant. Trucker Mitch Barton (Brian Keith) assembles a team of several other men for a nearly suicidal mission to drive three trucks to move the rocket fuel—hydrazine, nitric acid, and concentrated hydrogen peroxide—safely over a rough mountain road within three days. Fuel developer George Lawrence (Efrem Zimbalist, Jr.) feels responsible for a safe passage and comes along.

The men take the dangerous job for an exorbitant fee of 5,000 dollars each and discuss what they will do with the money. When his brother Ben is too drunk to drive, race car driver Ken takes his place. Frank Miller, determined to provide for his nagging wife, takes the job. He prevents a possible explosion by closing a valve on a nitric oxide tank with his bare hand and dies of his injuries.

Detoured by breakdowns, fatigue and a treacherous terrain, plus a runaway school bus, Mitch and the men arrive at their destination and receive their pay.

Julie is discovered missing from their cabin on Christmas Eve morning. Laura calls the Highway Patrol and Dan Mathews and Sergeant Corey initially grapple with a series of false leads. Ultimately, Dan deduces that Julie left the lodge on her own to mail her letter to Santa Claus. He decides to focus the search on any costume-wearing "Santas" in the area. Dan's hunch proves correct when Julie wanders to a nearby rescue mission and asks the bell-ringing "Santa" for help.
