The Woman on the Beach (1947)
Robert Ryan plays Scott, a Coast Guard officer who is having nightmares about a depth charge going off and a ship sinking. He has struck up a romance with a pretty local girl (Nan Leslie).
The troubled man is riding his horse on the beach when he comes across Peggy, a strikingly beautiful dark-haired woman (Joan Bennett) who is gathering firewood near the remains of a shipwreck. He finds himself strangely drawn to her. When she invites him to dinner with her husband Tod (Charles Bickford), a once-great painter who has gone blind. Scott accepts.
Ryan becomes obsessed with Peggy and grows to hate Tod, convinced that the artist is faking is blindness in order to keep his unhappy wife from leaving him. To test his theory, Scott takes Tod for a walk, then leads him close to the edge of a cliff above the ocean and . . .
