Young trombone player James Cardwell realizes his dream when he is given the chance to play with the Benny Goodman Orchestra. His ego soon swells, and ambitious girlfriend Linda Darnell encourages him to start his own band, which fails miserably. He swallows his pride and returns to the factory job, but Benny gives him another chance.
