Stella and Victor have eloped and are returning from their honeymoon in Europe. Back in the States, Stella meets Victor's family and the honeymoon is over: the family, dominated by Victor's manipulative mother, find Stella -- a free spirit -- pretentious and aloof. The marriage starts to fall apart when Victor begins siding with his family instead of his wife.
