Twin boys who do everything together, from collecting beetles to feeding stray cats, welcome their mother home after her reconstructive surgery. But with her face wrapped in bandages, and her demeanor distant, they grow suspicious of her identity.
A sickly young boy witnesses a gang of vicious criminals murder his mother and is subsequently kidnapped by them. When one of the kidnappers, a singer who was forced into helping with the job, discovers that the boy will die in a week without treatment, she turns to the investigating police before disappearing herself.
