Recluse Dierke Van Prinn tries on his latest invention, a pair of yellow-tinted spectacles, before a mirror and soon hangs himself. Centuries later, the glasses are unearthed during an estate auction and a trail of murder and suicide follow as "the cheaters" are passed from wearer to wearer, showing the truth in others and oneself.
