Route 66 (1960–1964): What a Shining Young Man Was Our Gallant Lieutenant (Season 3 Episode 27 - aired 26 April 1963)
Tod and Linc, in the Tampa, Florida area, visit Linc's former platoon leader. Unknown to Linc, the one-time peerless leader has suffered a brain injury which has reduced him mentally to a child. The sad story does not affect Linc's loyalty to the man but frustrates Tod when Linc decides to stay and help.
Linc finds out his old Lieutenant, (Dick York), for whom he had much respect, is living nearby and decides to pay him a visit. He finds him in his lieutenant's uniform. But something is missing. He doesn't recognize Linc. It turns out he's sustained a brain injury that deprived him of all his memory after the age of 8. In fact he thinks that he is age 8 and has the personality of a child, even if he retains some of the skills he learned as an adult.
His dream is to refurbish an old, wheel-less car that sits on cement blocks. He has succeeded and he dreams of driving around the country in it. It represents something he can control. When Linc obtains some tires, the lieutenant doesn't want them to be put on the car. Once someone else had put something on it, it's no longer his. Tod, again playing the skeptic rather than the dreamer, recognizes this and tries to convince Linc not to be "drawn into his 8 year old world", even threatening to drive off and leave him there. Eventually they drive off down the road the lieutenant will never see as he sits in his car with his proud, sad family and runs the engine for the car that can't go anyplace, except in his mind.

Friday, April 7 - Gold Rush Maisie
Gold Rush Maisie (1940)
On the way to an audition at the Hula Parlor Café, singer Maisie Ravier (Ann Sothern) gets trouble with her car in the middle of nowhere in Arizona. She manages to get to a ranch nearby, owned by a grumpy man named Bill Anders (Lee Bowman), who starts to get overly friendly during the night.
Maisie barricades herself in her guest room and leaves early the next morning. When she finally arrives at the café, her position is already filled. Maisie meets a little girl named Jubie Davis (Virginia Weidler) and hears rumors about a gold rush in a nearby abandoned smalltown. The same day she leaves for Phoenix, riding with the Davis family, who are there because of the gold findings.
Maisie takes pity on the poor family who has been tricked to come to Arizona, and persuades them to set up camp on Bill's land instead of in the smalltown, where hustlers are working the new arrivals for their savings. Bill eventually gives in, letting the Davis family raise their tent on his ranch.
Maisie joins the family in their search of gold, making a deal with the head of the family, Bert Davis (John F. Hamilton). They dig for days without finding anything, but suddenly they strike upon a vein of gold. They report their finding and wait for the paperwork to be finished. Meanwhile, a storm comes in over the ranch, destroying the family's camp, forcing them to take refuge in Bill's house.
The next morning the family is informed that their gold vein is worthless, and the disappointed Davis family get ready to go back onto the road, looking for work elsewhere. Maisie explains to Bill that they never came to find a fortune, but to survive because they had nowhere else to go. Bill takes pity on the poor family and offers them to irrigate some land in a nearby valley with water from his estate, so that they can stay and become farmers. Maisie then leaves to find her own fortune.

Upon arriving at 'Wee Holme' in Marazine Road, Nannie's address, he finds that she is also entertaining Jane Oliphant, Reggie's ex-fiancee, a girl with a heart of stone whom Reggie has reason to believe visited some people by the name of Ponderby and became engaged to a man named Dillingwater, all in the space of a week. It is up to Nurse Wilks to bring the two star-crossed lovers together. Reggie is locked in a cupboard because he refuses to kiss Miss Jane, and Jane follows Reggie into the cupboard when she forgets where she is and lights up a cigarette. Bludleigh Court is a strange house - it exercises a ghastly spell that saps even the most humanitarian principles and turns the gentlest nature-lover into a monster of ravening bloodlust. At first Charlotte is inclined to scoff at Aubrey's warnings but upon arriving at the house, both young people soon fall under its spell. They find themselves pursuing Aubrey's Uncle Francis, whose sole topic of conversation is limited to gnus, and as far as Aubrey is concerned 'No gnus is good news'. Charlotte had never thought that she would be handy with an air rifle, but she turns out to be an excellent shot, pursuing Uncle Francis off the boathouse roof where he is sunbathing, but Uncle Francis is a good mover, having got that way by pursuing the nippier gnus. When both Aubrey and Charlotte come to themselves they leave Bludleigh Court for good, returning to London for a spot of tea and marriage.
