The Flame (1947)
George McAllister (John Carroll), a profligate spendthrift, is jealous of his half-brother Barry McAllister, who has the lion’s share of the family inheritance. But Barry is ill and probably going to die in a few months. Angry at Barry’s success especially measured against his own failures, George hatches a plan: He succeeds in getting his girlfriend Carlotta (Vera Ralston) hired as a nurse to live in the family mansion and take care of his brother (this all happened before the movie started). His family doesn’t know that she and George have a history together, and when Barry falls in love with her, no one suspects that it’s all a scheme for George getting back the family fortune after Barry dies.
But after Carlotta marries Barry, it doesn’t take her long to realize he is a much better person than George and she falls in love with him. While all this is going on, George is having an affair with Helen (Constance Dowling) a woman who lives down the hall in his apartment building, and when her jealous ex-boyfriend Ernie (Broderick Crawford) tails George he learns about the scheme involving Carlotta marrying George. Before long, he threatens George with blackmail, putting his entire ‘long con’ into danger.

On a dark road a hitch-hiker gets picked up by a trucker. The truck crashes, the hitch-hiker burns his hands trying to rescue the driver. The trauma of the crash gives him amnesia. He doesn't know who he is. He gets a job on an oil rig. After he's fired for assaulting a co-worker one thing leads to another and he finds out he's from the town of Lyncastle. As soon as he hits town the cops pick him up on a 2 year old murder rap. He now has a name, Johnny McBride. He allegedly stole $250,000 from the bank he was working at and killed the DA. The cops can't hold him because his fingerprints were burned off! So he sets off to ask some questions and get some answers. He rubs some people the wrong way especially casino owner and all around sleaze bag Servo. It turns out that McBride's co-worker/girlfriend Vera split after the heist, got plastic surgery, changed her name and returned to Lyncastle. There's four women who could be Vera. So of course Johnny has to seduce all of them to find out who the real Vera is! One of the few people who believe in him is his former boss Gardiner, the president of the bank. He offers him money to leave town after all the trouble he's caused. He of course refuses. By this point Servo has had enough, gets all the "Vera's" together to find out who the real one is to trap Johnny. This leads to a violent conclusion and a not too surprising ending.

Saturday, May 16 - Jeannie
Jeannie (1941)
Jeannie McLean is a young Scottish women who takes care of her tightfisted father, leaving her no time (and money) for herself. When he dies, she discovers he has left his "fortune" - 297 pounds - to her, nothing to her sisters. She decides to have some fun for a change, starting with a trip to Vienna.
On the way to and in Vienna, a stranger, Stanley Smith, helps her through various difficulties resulting from her inexperience. As they become acquainted, she tells him she is 26, but he soon discovers (from her passport) that she is 22 (it's the other way around).
In Vienna, Jeannie makes the acquaintance of Count Ehrlich von Wittgenstein, while Stanley gets to known a blonde named Margaret. The next day, Stanley sets out to market his invention, a washing machine, while the count takes Jeannie on a tour of the city. She goes shopping for clothes. When Stanley sees her that night, she is completely transformed outwardly. Stanley asks her out, but she is already engaged to go to the opera with the count. Stanley takes Margaret there too. Everywhere the count takes Jeannie, Stanley arranges to be there as well, along with Margaret. Finally, the count asks Jeannie to marry him, but when he learns that she is not rich as he thought (broke, in fact), he breaks it off (and gets punched by Stanley). Jeannie has just money enough left to get home (that's it).
Stanley has great success selling his washing machines, but when he goes to Scotland to find Jeannie, no one knows where she is. As luck would have it, she has found work demonstrating Stanley's product (she's demonstrating a different product at the same trade show). He proposes to her, and after some resistance, she gives in.

Friday, May 15 - Le Corbeau
Le Corbeau (1943)
In a small French town identified as "anywhere", anonymous poison pen letters are sent by somebody signing as "Le Corbeau" (the Raven or Crow). The letters start by accusing doctor RĂ©my Germain of having an affair with Laura Vorzet, the pretty young wife of the elderly psychiatrist Dr. Vorzet. Germain is also accused of practising illegal abortions. Letters are then sent to virtually all the population of the town, but keep getting back to the initial victim, Dr. Germain. The situation becomes increasingly serious when a patient of the hospital commits suicide with his straight razor after the Raven writes to him that his cancer is terminal.
Laura Vorzet's sister Marie Corbin, a nurse in the infirmary, becomes a suspect and is arrested, but soon new letters arrive. When one letter is dropped in a church from a gallery, it becomes apparent the Raven must be one of the people seated there at the time. They are gathered to re-write the Raven's letters as dictated by Dr. Vorzet, to compare the handwriting. Germain's lover Denise is suspected when she faints during the dictation, only for Laura to be identified by material found on her blotter. Germain agrees to sign an order committing Laura as insane; he is called away to attend Denise, who has fallen downstairs, but before he leaves Laura protests she wrote the Raven's first letters before Dr. Vorzet began dictating them, making him the true Raven. Just as the ambulance takes Laura away, Germain returns to find Dr. Vorzet dead at his desk, his throat cut by the cancer patient's mother as he was writing the Raven's final, triumphant letter.

Time Out for Romance (1937)
Barbara Blanchard, the daughter of rags-to-riches divorced oilman Jim Blanchard, is going to marry Count Michael Montaine. When Jim receives a telegram from the count insisting upon a settlement of $500,000 before the marriage, he sends word of this to Barbara. However, the radiogram reaches her just after the wedding has taken place.
Furious, she drives off. Her mother Vera is determined to avoid public humiliation and to see her matchmaking scheme completed. Vera has her daughter declared mentally unbalanced and swears out a warrant for her arrest. When Barbara learns of this from the radio, she has her hairdresser Mabel dye her hair blonde. She also switches clothes with her. Barbara sets out for Los Angeles to meet her father's yacht. (However, Vera sends a wireless message to Jim, telling him the couple have reconciled. He believes her and heads to Acapulco instead.)
When police chase her for speeding, she abandons her car. After numerous attempts at hitchhiking fail, she pretends to faint. Bob and his friends the Dooleys both stop. Midge Dooley tells Bob to give her a lift, but he has had a bad experience with a blonde, plus he risks losing his job (driving a new car to California for Willoughby Sproggs as part of a four-car caravan). When she conveniently faints again, Bob gives in, but only until they reach the next town. She claims she is on the run because when she cashed her check from a walkathon she won, it turned out there was no money. At the next town, he loans her $10 and sends her on her way. She tries to send a telegram to her father collect, but cannot because she would have to show some ID. She sneaks back into Bob's car undetected.
On the way to Omaha, when Bob tries to get rid of her, Sproggs finds out about the unauthorized passenger. Barbara claims to be Bob's wife, and Midge backs her up, so Bob is forced to take her along.
When they stop for the night, Bob will not let her share his room. Roy, another one of Sproggs' drivers, tries to pick her up, but Bob knocks him down. She goes to sleep in the car. There she finds a necklace hidden away, which leads her to assume Bob is a thief. Meanwhile, Midge reads a newspaper article about a "blonde gun-moll" wanted in connection with a diamond robbery and thinks Barbara is her. Midge tells Bob.
Eventually, it is all sorted out. Roy turns out to be the jewel thief, Barbara's father will get her marriage annulled, and the couple embrace.

Thursday, April 30 - I Married a Woman
I Married a Woman (1958)
Advertising executive Mickey Briggs is given 48 hours by his boss, Sutton, to come up with a campaign for client Luxemberg Beer and save the company from ruin. Mickey neglects his wife, Janice, who once had been a "Miss Luxemberg" in a successful ad campaign featuring various attractive models.
Janice has just discovered she is expecting a baby, but is unable to inform Mickey, who is too distracted by work. Even when they find time to go to a movie, John Wayne is on screen, being considerate to his screen wife (Angie Dickinson), which makes Janice weepy but Mickey finds unrealistic.
It does give Mickey an idea, however, for a campaign in which "Miss Luxemberg" is now "Mrs. Luxemberg", enjoying family bliss. Sutton loves it, then rejects all the applicants until he decides that Janice herself must return to be "Mrs. Luxemberg". Film footage of their real life is shot without Janice's knowledge.
All goes terribly wrong, with Janice instead suing Mickey for divorce and Sutton's company for $100,000. After flirting with Mickey's wife, best pal Bob Sanders breaks the news that she's pregnant, which makes Mickey try harder to win her back. On a cruise and in love again, the couple is startled to spot John Wayne on board, arguing with his wife.
