Casey Owens (James Darren) is a self-centered ex-GI whose only passion in life has been cars -- until he meets Eadie (Pamela Tiffin). They go to San Francisco, where he starts building an engine for a wealthy man who wants to enter the Tri-State Endurance Race. Against his boss' wishes, Casey stubbornly insists on building a radical turbine-designed motor and trashes the car. After he's fired, he retrieves the engine and scrapes together the money to enter his own car in the race.
