Steve Stankey holds up the Wilcox Gas Station and escapes in a taxicab. At a stoplight, he decides to commandeer a sports car driven by a young man but has to shoot and kill a Highway Patrol officer while making the switch. Dan Mathews orders roadblocks established for all major highways to contain Stankey, who abandons the sports car and restrains the driver before making his way on foot to a nearby farm owned by a couple named Edward and Mae. Stankey plans to steal the couple's car and escape, but Dan and Sergeant Moore arrive and quickly become aware that Stankey is in the house and is holding the couple at gunpoint. Dan has Sergeant Moore distract Stankey at the front of the house while he enters from the rear as part of a last-ditch effort to capture Stankey and rescue Edward and Mae.
Twice a month, Mrs. Bixby travels to Baltimore to visit an elderly aunt, her only living relative. Or so she tells her dentist-husband. In fact, she visits the Colonel, her rich lover. Before returning home, he gives her a gift of a fur coat - along with a letter saying that they won't be seeing each other anymore. Mrs. Bixby decides to pawn the coat but her elaborate scheme to explain the coat to her husband doesn't quite go as planned.
