Tony Curtis plays a visitor from the East Coast who encounters bizarre people and near-disasters from the moment he enters L.A. In the first scene, the man loses his car and all of his belongings when a beautiful Italian woman (Cardinale) with terrible driving skills bumps into Curtis’ VW and causes it to careen off a mountain road. The Italian turns out to be the mistress of a swimming pool magnate (Robert Webber) whose business is actually owned by his highly suspicious wife (Joanna Barnes). From there it's "one-damn-thing-after-another"...
