Highway Patrol (1955–1959): Phony Insurance (Season 1 | Episode 12 - aired 19 December 1955)
An apparently legitimate businessman named Masterson provides a "transportation maintenance service" to trucking companies. Jim Hawley's trucking company refuses to sign and experiences numerous costly breakdowns despite careful work by his mechanics. Dan Mathews finds that many of the breakdowns occur after the drivers have visited the Walnut Cafe and that two café employees (Artie and Jenkins) have ties to Masterson. Dan convinces Hawley to subscribe to Masterson's service while making certain that costly breakdowns continue. Masterson pays the claims as agreed but eventually suspects that he is being double-crossed and he confronts Artie and Jenkins at the café. The confrontation has an ironic result.

Special Delivery (1976)
A quartet of Vietnam vets stage a bold bank robbery, posing as guys starting up a toy company. They make their escape across L.A. rooftops, but in the end, only Murdock (Bo Svenson) is able to make a clean getaway. Still, in order to do this, he dumps his share of the loot into a mailbox. Now, he has to wait for an opportunity to retrieve his ill-gotten gains before the mailman makes his late night pick-up at a quarter to midnight.
The hitch is that two people have witnessed his desperate act. Eccentric but gorgeous artist Mary Jane (Cybill Shepherd) watched from her nearby apartment window, and a lowlife bartender / pusher, Graff (Michael C. Gwynne) just happened to be on the scene at the time. Graffs' knowledge spells trouble, because he puts two and two together and figures to profit nicely, but Mary Jane, despite being a pain in the ass, mostly just wants some excitement in her life. She's not about to rat out Murdock.

Storm Center (1956)
Alicia Hull is a widowed small town librarian dedicated to introducing children to the joy of reading. In exchange for fulfilling her request for a children's wing, the city council asks her to withdraw the book The Communist Dream from the library's collection. When she refuses to comply with their demand, she is fired, and branded as a subversive. Especially upset by this is young Freddie Slater, a boy with a deep love of books whom Alicia has closely mentored.
Judge Ellerbe feels Alicia has been treated unfairly, and calls a town meeting, hoping to rally support for her. However, ambitious attorney and aspiring politician Paul Duncan, who is dating assistant librarian Martha Lockeridge, undermines those efforts by publicly revealing Alicia's past associations with organizations that turned out to be Communist fronts. Alicia notes that she resigned as soon as she found out the true nature of the organizations, but Duncan's incendiary revelations result in only a handful of people showing up to the meeting. Those that do attend express concern about being branded Communists themselves if they stand with Alicia. Upon hearing their concerns, Alicia informs the meeting that she no longer wishes to fight the city council, and wants to let the matter drop. With no opposition to her removal mounted, virtually the entire town eventually turns against Alicia.
Freddie, convinced by the opinions of others, particularly his narrow-minded father, that Alicia is a bad person, is unable to handle the resulting feelings of betrayal. He becomes increasingly fearful even of books themselves, and he begins to break down completely, culminating in his setting fire to the library. His actions cause the residents to have a change of heart, and they ask Alicia to return and supervise the construction of a new building. Alicia agrees, lamenting her earlier decision not to fight and vowing never again to allow a book to be removed from the library.

Tuesday, April 2 - The Bowery
The Bowery (1933)
In this rough-and-tumble action comedy, Chuck Connors (Wallace Beery) and Steve Brodie (George Raft) are friendly rivals on New York's Bowery in the 1890s. Connors owns a fancy tavern and looks after a streetwise kid named Swipes McGurk (Jackie Cooper), while Brodie is a daredevil willing to do nearly anything to get the better of Connors. When both men fall in love with Lucy Calhoun (Fay Wray), who has fallen on hard times, Brodie takes her under his wing and helps get her back on her feet. Connors is furious that his rival has won her heart, so he goads Brodie into doing something spectacular to prove his love for her -- jumping off the Brooklyn Bridge, for example. Reckless but not stupid, Brodie has no intention of making the jump and plans to use a dummy instead, but when Connors and his henchmen show up to make sure that Brodie doesn't back down, the dare is turned into a wager, and Brodie emerges the new owner of Connors' bar after successfully making the jump.
