Reformed jewel thief Michael Lanyard, aka The Lone Wolf, comes to the aid of Joan Bradley. After receiving the gift of a diamond necklace from Mrs. Penyon, her fiancee's mother, Joan discovers her presumed dead ex-husband waiting to rob her in her apartment. He's murdered after Joan hides in the bedroom, and she escapes when the police, led by dogged pursuer Inspector Crane and his idiot assistant Dickens, suspect her. Lanyard hides her in his apartment, and with the assistance of butler Jamison, begins his own investigation, which involves rival jewel thief Clay Beaudine.
