After a fire which killed his father and scarred his sister, Allan, a guilt-ridden victim of psychosomatic blindness, is released from a mental hospital and goes back home to stay with his estranged sister.
The sister has a mysterious new boarder, Harold Dennis, a university student who only speaks in a whisper due to a throat injury. Allen comes to believe that this boarder is out to kill him.
